the many faces of thank goodness you’re here’s traveling salesman

thank goodness you’re here, the first high-profile release from indie dev coal supper, is one of the funniest video games in recent memory.

you play as a diminutive traveling salesman visiting the northern england village of barnsworth for a meeting with its mayor. upon arriving, however, the mayor is busy, so you set off to see the sights and, in true video game fashion, get caught up in fixing the numerous and varied issues of the townsfolk.

although the little yellow guy who serves as thank goodness you’re here‘s protagonist never utters a word, that doesn’t mean he’s a blank slate. okay, sure, his expression mostly stays the same and at times his eyes drift apart as if he’s losing consciousness, but he still has lots of personality.

here’s our main character via the playstation 5 splash screen that appears as the game loads. this is the first glimpse you get of his fantastic eyelashes.

you quickly learn that the traveling salesman’s head is quite squishy, such as when he breaks out of a giant pint of beer and lands flat on the bar.

he’s also not shy about lying in the path of an automatic door and letting it squish his head while he thinks about his wacky adventure thus far.

is he stuck in a chimney or referencing a world war 2-era meme? you decide.

about here is where our little guy starts to seriously consider giving up and going home, i think.

and then he falls down a well.

not pictured: a bunch of dead, cigarette-smoking fish and a horny fishmonger.

pipe. nothing else. just pipe.

mfw i’m baked into a giant pie.

no thoughts, head empty.

ditto.

i think that’s pea soup idk go play the game yourself it’s only a couple hours long.

i think the brits call this a “rubbish bin.”

this one is my favorite. look at his little feet.

meat.

fuck the police, acab, 1312, etc.

ready for a delicious meal…

…remembers he’s in england.

selfie.

and finally, the most realistic depiction of a panic attack in video games.

thank goodness you’re here is available on playstation 5, playstation 4, nintendo switch, pc, and mac.
